Ben Jurca's profile

Ich sehe was, was du nicht siehst

Today's world is determined by the conflict and the coexistence of different cultures. How can we deal with each other respectfully and sustainably - now and in the future? Where do advantages and disadvantages, limits and possibilities lie?
This study project is a prototype for a transcultural museum. It is intended to illustrate the idea of transculturality and a development towards complexity not only the cognitive, but also the subconscious level. A visit to a museum like this should follow along a development from an unambiguous and a stereotype-determined thinking towards an ambiguious, complex, differentiated thinking.
Each individual room, the exhibits and the exhibition topics are designed accordingly. Starting with a certain perspective on the exhibition's topic, moments and places of irritation and interaction with other visitors of the exhibition occur on the way. Relevant conflicts between cultural groups and individuals, but also with their own prejudices and attitudes are adressed and discussed.

The concept of this museum is based on the idea of transculturality: its approach is not to speak of closed, uniform and self-contained cultures, but of complex, differentiated, dynamic and overlapping cultural spaces.

An exemplary exhibition about religiously defined cultural space has been simulated. For this purpose the four religious beliefs were selected, which presumably have the greatest relevance for the German society. Other religious communities are not forgotten or devaluated.
This example is intended to illustrate the process and the possibilities of a transcultural exhibition. It has been developed based on my personal knowledge and with its own cultural imprints. It has not been checked by scientists or experts of the individual cultural areas or has been worked out with regard to a coherent overall experience.

You can listen to a spoken tour through this exhibition (in German).
