Crossing the Digital Divide- eLearning
As part of a national initiative to increase efficiency ofcustomer service and change management, TATA Motors- India’s largest automobilemanufacturer looked at eLearning solutions to keep the service workforce up tospeed with best of technical training and field practices. As design partners, Trina conducted contextual enquiries across pan India service centers conductinga comprehensive survey of training methods, work culture and shop-frontenvironments and devised a proof of concept in collaboration with subjectmatter experts from TATA Training division. This one hour pilot was tested forfeedback from mechanics through a roll out process covering 7 Indian citiesinvolving more than 70 mechanics. The positive feedback from users promptedTATA to sign Trina to develop a complete training program on Truck servicingusing highly technical and visual instructional material.
The scale of the project demanded heavy outsourcing ofmedia. As the creative lead, I was responsible for creating a style guide, media conversion and optimization techniques and training a team of animatorsand technical script writers in nuances of technical illustrations andanimation techniques.
The project is the first of the kind in India for its sheer ambition to empower grassroot learning through technology at a corporate level. Apart from communicating a complex and highly visual material though a medium hither though unfamiliar to the end user, the scale at which it was achieved proved to be great lessons in context sensitive communication design strategy and design management.
