The Mudskipper Story - A Flipbook

This project is in collaboration with ANET- a research centre based in Andaman Islands, India. They are working towards increasing awareness about ecology of Andaman Islands among local children. A flipbook was designed for children to get interested in species behaviour.

The species in focus is a Mudskipper who lives in the mangroves and has evolved and adapted uniquely to its ever changing enviornment which is heavily dependent on the tidal cycle.

The Process
Research on Mudskipper involved understanding their habitat and their interactions with the habitat. They also project some unique features like presence of pectoral fins which allow them to walk on land and the ability to retract their eyeballs inwards to keep them moist and many more mentioned above.

Final Preperations
The background was created with found objects. Twigs were used to make the mangrove trees, sandpaper for soil and cellophane sheets to depict changing water levels.
