The fundamental idea of the design was the development of a shape, which integrates itself harmonically
into the landscape. Based on this idea emerged the notion, to look at the stadium and the
Olympic facility as a whole and hence to build the roof over the whole area. This is done by means of
stripes, which are interwaved with the landscape and sometimes vanish into or bulge out of it.
The sculpture starts in the valley on the west side of the area. The beginning consists of four stripes,
which form the Olympic village at the slope of the hill. Later on the four stripes turn into fourteen,
which intersect more and more in order to form an adequate roof surface area. The roof of the stadium
constitutes the highest point of the whole shape. At this point are the most overlaps so as to
protect the stadium optimally from sun and rain.
Der Grundgedanke des Entwurfs ist die Entwicklung einer Gesamtform, die sich harmonisch in
die Landschaft eingliedert. Daraus entstand die Idee, das Stadion und die anderen olympischen Einrichtungen
als Gesamtheit zu betrachten und unser Dach über das gesamte Gebiet hinweg zu ziehen.
Dies geschieht mittels BaÅNnder, die mit der Landschaft verwoben sind, teilweise in ihr verschwinden
oder sich über ihr aufwölben.
Die Skulptur beginnt im Tal auf der Westseite des Geländes. Vier Bänder bilden den Anfang und formen
am Hang den Bereich des Olympischen Dorfes. Im Verlauf werden aus den vier ersten Bändern
vierzehn, die sich mehr und mehr kreuzen um so geeignete Dachfl aÅNchen auszubilden. Das Stadiondach
bildet den Hochpunkt der gesamten Form. Hier entstehen die meisten Überschneidungen,
die das Stadion optimal vor Regen und Sonne zu schützen.
