Child Study Center Identity Design and Branding

Child Study Center is a community oriented research center at Rochester Institute of Technology, interested in the early stages of human development. The client required a friendly, caring and thoughtful identity. The target audience for this identity design project would be the research volunteer families and agencies focussed on family well-being and care. The branding strategy was to focus on promoting CSC to potential research volunteer families and keep them involoved in an on-going basis; integrating CSC into family-focused agency solutions; and cutting cost without cutting quality since it is a non-profit organization.

Logo and Identity

I designed the logo to show the connections and communication that CSC would have with children, in a unique way. The six designs follow two layouts (themes); the use of a distinguised hand-writing style to display "Child Study Center" and bright colors. The different colors and elements can be used on various type of materials.

Background color: light, warm beige. Text font: Myriad Pro.

Business Card and Alphabet Card

Logo on one side and business card on the other side.

In order to help children learn, the other side of cards can also be printed letters and objects. The use of bright colors can help children better learn colors.

Promotional Strategy

Information Sheet

1. For office use: Information sheet that helps parents acknowledge some useful research results, educational tips, behavioral techniques, etc.
2. For public use: Place information sheet in areas where children and parents regularly visit, such as Nursing Centers, Children Clinics, Doctor Offices, Toy Stores etc.

Appointment Magnet

CSC requires 3 visits by volunteer families to complete the research. Refrigerators are one of the most obvious and most used objects in homes. So, by making the appointment cards magnetic we can more effectively and consistently remind parents about upcoming appointment dates and keep research volunteer families maintaining the relationship.

Magnet sheet, inkjet print ( $12, 5 sheets)

Be thoughtful and better engage volunteer families

A warm and personal touch to an email rather than a generic appointment reminder email can be a much more effective way to build connections and maintain sustained contribution from volunteer families. A happy birthday email or thank you email would make communication more comfortable and friendly and make the volunteer families more receptive.

Playful Stickers

Stickers can be used as labels of products, gift cards, documents, or anything where the client would like to have their logo displayed. This cuts cost because it reduces the need to design customized material.

Children like colorful and playful stickers. It will be a good way of spreading CSC's identity and leaving a memorable impression.

T-shirt with logo

A t-shirt for parents and their children with different logos and colors would be fun to wear as a family. Children can also dress themselves with matching tees for the toys. Creating an integrated and involved experiences for all members.
