Children's book illustration: Paloma Blanca
(Soledad Córdova, Trama, 2006)
So many fun elements in the above composition: that's a Pre-Columbian piece of pottery washed up on the shore. A local dog scampers to investigate the day's catch with early morning vendors.
A 'broccoli forest'! I had fun creating this musical arrangement of spider monkeys and colorful guacamayos.
Cheeky frigate birds dive in to snatch pickings from the day's catch. You can see my love of knitting in the fisherman's cap.
A very sad image to work on. An oil tanker had recently been wrecked in Europe and the news gave me glimpses of the fires from burning oil on the water's surface. A former student modelled for me on this one. I couldn't resist giving her a flower ring as a sign of hope.
As a child growing up in Australia, the forests in Tasmania were under threat and I distincly remember the protesters making plenty of good noise. Here you can see a Tasmanian devil mother and her cubs growling loudly in the bare forest.
Mass exodus! That's the 'fat lady' exiting on the right and 'Alice' departing wonderland. My models were my fellow teachers seen during staff meetings. If you had to up and leave, taking a book would you, what would it be?
So sad seeing children begging.
This cityscape is taken from my memories of New York City.
