Solvant "Poison Skies" Music Video
For this project, I was given the opportunity to collaborate and film a music video for Solvant. I was involved in both their pre-production planning and filming.
During the pre-production stage, I had to discuss the concept for the music video with both the director and the band. The concept was to portray the toxicity and environmental consequences of war. Before we start filming, we had to recce the film location to check the natural lighting conditions and potential shooting spots.
During production, I was the Gaffer and Camera Assistant. I filmed and planned the itinerary for the shoot. In addition, I had to create and plan the story and shoot board. As our filming location is a natural area, we had to used a reflector and diffuser to soften the harsh natural lighting. In this portfolio, I have compiled the shots that I film which was used for the final cut.
Overall, the shoot was a very tedious yet enjoyable process. I learnt to handle and use the proper camera settings for each shot. Being out in the sun and also worrying about the battery life was quite challenging. Despite the hardship, I learnt to give out proper and clear instructions for the band to act out according to the shots. Due to the time restriction we had, we had to be very strategic and stringent of our time.
From the planning of the production till filming, it felt very rewarding seeing the band's vision come to life. It was very satisfying to see the final cut. Despite the challenges we faced, we managed to create a great music video which portrays the vision the band had.
