Chronic kidney disease (CKD)

Chronic Kidney Disease

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a condition where your kidneys are damaged and gradually lose their ability to function properly over time.

What happens in CKD:
 1. Your kidneys are vital organs responsible for filtering waste products and excess fluid   from your blood. This waste is then removed from your body through urine.
 2. In CKD, this filtering process becomes impaired, leading to a build-up of waste   products and fluids in your blood.
 3. This build-up can cause various health problems if left untreated.

Causes:
 1. Diabetes: Both type 1 and type 2 diabetes can significantly damage the kidneys over   time.
 2. High blood pressure: Uncontrolled high blood pressure puts constant strain on the   kidneys, leading to damage.
