While their French counterparts are renowned for their hues of colour,
these houses are clearly no less.
Not to forget their daily 'Kollams', which my dear friend Kriti pointed out to me.
In the wee hours of the morning, you can find ladies sprinkling Kollam patterns outside their front doors- freehand!
Their backyards? The Bay of Bengal.
These yellow circles and red dots are seen on all the houses, a form of 'Nazarbattu' to ward off evil.
I fell in love with the ornate detail and bold colour combinations.
Peeped in to see a friendly host!
A series of crooked images cause the sun was so bright, I couldn't see.
Thatched roofs, bamboo beams and clay tiles. These structures are largely sustainable, with the exception of a few aluminium sheets which have replaced traditional roofing techniques due to storms which cause destruction and leaks.
Reminds me of my toy xylophone.
