Project Scope: Back in 2015 shortly after we both left the same place of employment, a good friend reached out to me and said that he had been making candles as a hobby in his kitchen and wanted to perhaps explore of the idea of building it into a brand. Little did I know that would be the first of many conversations that would start Cavern New York and a fragrance brand that we have been running ever since together.

Ultimately Cavern's branding would be influenced by The Cavern Club in Liverpool England and its historic mark and continued legacy in the world of music. We felt that music and fragrance both have similar impacts on the human experience and our emotions, but we didn't want the brand to feel like a dingy rock club. We ultimately decided to use a well known and elegant font (Baskerville) and to create a primary logo mark that was in a shape of a guitar pick to pay tribute to the influence of music, but not have it totally encompass the brand or where it would ultimately lead.

We also agreed that this would be a brand that we would allow to grow organically and would be navigated by passion for quality and creativity over the standard x/y axis of time and money. For me it has been a vessel for creative approach that I never thought I would have and through its nearly 10 years of existence has let to some amazing products and projects.
