Navodaya Entrance Examination

Who is eligible for Navodaya Entrance Examination?
The Navodaya Entrance Examination, officially known as the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST), is conducted annually by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. This entrance exam is designed to select students for admission into the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs), which are residential schools established across various districts in India with the aim of providing quality education to rural children.

Eligibility criteria for the Navodaya Entrance Examination include

1. Age Limit: As per the guidelines, candidates must be between the ages of 9 and 13 years on July 1st of the year of admission. This means candidates must be born between a specified range of dates to be eligible to apply for the exam.

2. Educational Qualifications: Applicants must be studying in Class 5 at the time of appearing for the Navodaya Entrance Examination. They should be enrolled in a recognized government or government-aided school or a school that is affiliated with recognized boards like the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), State Board, or any other equivalent institution.

3. Residential Status: One of the key objectives of the Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya is to provide quality education to rural children. Therefore, only students from rural areas are eligible to apply for the Navodaya Entrance Examination. Candidates must have studied in rural areas for a minimum of three continuous years in Classes 3, 4, and 5.

4. Nationality: Applicants must be Indian citizens. Foreign nationals are not eligible to apply for admission to JNVs through the Navodaya Vidyalaya application form.

5. Reservation Criteria: There are certain reserved seats for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) as per the reservation policy of the Government of India. Additionally, there are also provisions for seats reserved for candidates with special needs.

6. No Previous Selection: Candidates who have already been selected for admission in a JNV are not eligible to appear for the Navodaya Entrance Examination again.
