Ouroboros
An asymmetrical pendant lamp

The Goal
To learn about and explore shape, form and proportion by designing and making a pendant (hanging) lamp.
Restrictions
The hanging lamp had to be made of two materials: Glue and paper. The thickness and texture of the paper was up to interpretation and to be explored.
Inspiration
Ouroboros was inspired by curvy shapes and forms to create something unique, whilst taking inspiration form waves and seashells.
Ideation
As Ouroboros began its prototyping phase, the curves and form of a mobius strip stood out as a potential primary shape for the hanging lamp
Prototyping
It started as just mobius strips stacked ontop of eachother, ending with a curve, with some overlapping.
Then it was a matter of enclosing the light source, using loops to fully cover it.
Experimenting with paper types, to find out what the ideal weight is.
Final Idea
After finalising the prototype stage, Ouroboros was deliberately offset, to add uniqueness and also to showcase the mobius strips used in it.
