Unveiling Hong Kong's Evolving Tattoo Culture

Embarking on a captivating journey into the intricate tapestry of Hong Kong's tattoo culture, I present my latest project—an illustration series born from a comprehensive online survey conducted for Tattoosays. Traditionally associated with triad societies, the perception of tattoos in Chinese culture has undergone a profound transformation in 2024.
No longer confined to mere symbols of identity, tattoos have emerged as powerful expressions of art and poignant memorials. The survey delves into this shift, capturing the nuanced perspectives of individuals who adorn themselves with ink. As the first extensive survey of its kind in Hong Kong, this project serves not only as a mirror reflecting the diverse narratives within the tattooed community but also as a bridge connecting those beyond its borders.
My illustrations are a visual embodiment of the survey's findings, meticulously crafted piece by piece. Presented in a square series for online platforms and featured prominently in a large poster designed for seminars, this collection provides a unique lens through which viewers can engage with and understand the evolving landscape of tattoo culture in Hong Kong.
