"Come Together Over Me"
multiple shapes surround an abstract yellow bird. The abstract shapes represent people from all walks of life and how they interact.
An inviting pink Nexus is surrounded by six different color sections. The orange, hot pink light blue, Teal, red, and yellow color sections representing different aspects of the black community.
The abstract bird represents community and the power in numbers. Many species of birds live in flocks, known for their strong but beautiful voices. I myself am an animal lover and fond of birds. Concepts II and III were ultimately combined to create the final illustrations.

My art is inspired heavily by folk art and textiles, namely the textiles of Ethiopia and Nigeria.
I have also always been drawn to bright vivid colors and line work. A Ghanian fabric called
“Kente cloth” is known for it’s bright, striking colors with pops of black accents in them.
Each color has a meaning to it, in the same way that each color has it’s own meaning to
me.

“Come Together Over Me” aims to spark excitement and hope in other members of the
black community about the future. Showing that only through unity, love, and community
can we continue to prevail. This piece, with it’s varies colors and textures, highlights that
black people may look different from each other in many ways but acceptance for your
fellow community members sets a wonderful example for everyone around us.

The artwork title is based on the Beatles song of the same name.
