Personal Identity

The Brief

Craft and create a brand that captures the essence of my characteristic design style and all it entails. A new identity to be represented by in the professional design industry. The brand was to be applied through to stationery set and an online and offline portfolio.

The Process

I started the project by brainstorming around ideas and themes that are unique to me and the way that I work. Something that’s always been close to my heart is the countryside and coincidentally my first name—Bryn—means the word hill in welsh.

The second theme for exploration was the nature of my working style. Something that always features in my design work is layers. Whether it’s layers in a Photoshop file or conceptual depth. Lots of sketching, experimenting and vectoring later I had a marque that I was happy with, which I feel tied my two concepts together. The logo marque was constructed from four basic square shapes layered on top of one another.
The use of transparency gives a real sense of depth to the logo. The transparency naturally lets the colour beneath the logo come through in different areas—tying the marque in with it’s surroundings.Elements of the marque such as the aqua primary colour and rounded corners on the layered shapes tie in directly with my countryside inspiration.

One of the most important sections of this branding project was designing and creating a platform to hold all of my work under this new brand identity. An online portfolio was designed and created using Type & Grids—a simple and easy to navigate HTML5 template with a focus on typographic details and responsive, mobile-first grids.

The Outcome

The final result is a distinct and unique marque with supporting printed and digital materials to be represented by. The brand includes a fresh new personal portfolio, CV, cover letter, invoice template and two variations of business cards.
