LOOK AT THE WORLD(Social research) Watercolour, linocut

This is how I approached one of the admission tasks for Willem de Kooning Academy. The task was to conduct a research of a social topic that is relevant for me and my surrounding. With this work I explain how I and my peers experience youth in Belarus. What most of us feel is helplessness and fear of the 'ocean' of adult life that we all will have to enter one day. It is similar to existing in your own little closed world and trying to survive in there. The 3 stones that make up this 'world' are symbolising three spheres of life that we are connected to during our teen years: school, social life and family. They all effect us and the way we are going to behave when adults. The 'school' stone (on the back) is connected to 'social' rock because school is where we build our first significant connections and learn to communicate which is sometimes tough. The 'family' stone is here because getting on with family members might be hard as well, but it 'shows' the character the way to escape for family is also a great support for us.
