I've decided to gift my girlfriend with something different to celebrate our anniversary.

This was my first time with a serious project envolving wood engraving and packaging.

 

For this I've bought a simple and plain pine wood box (19cm x 14cm x 12cm aprox.) and started doodling some decoration. Since I've been in love with ornaments for a long time, I decided to draw some and see how it would work out if engraved. Since it worked out pretty well, I've decided to move forward and copy the ornaments to the box, without over-filling it.

To engrave the wood I've used a simple pyrography kit - worked between 6V and 12V (for more heat when necessary) - and two different tips.

 

Once engraved, the box had been varnished with Bondex Classic protective/preservative. I've used oak colored preservative for a little darkened finish.

 

To give it a special touch, I've made a paper bag with 90g/m2 kraft paper, raffia rope for handlers and drew my personal logo on it. For the box itself, it was wrapped in 40g/m2 kraft paper, where I quickly sketched "amor meu" (my love, in portuguese) .
