BR20+
BR20+ is a project by Henrique Nardi and Marcos Mello. It celebrates Brazilian typography and two decades of creative partnership between Tipocracia and Oficina Tipográfica São Paulo.
The main feature of the BR20+ project is a poster that showcases 50 characters designed by Brazilian type designers.
The six-layer poster was made using letterpress and screen printing techniques. The first set of letters was engraved on two large wooden boards, while the second set was printed in silver on a Vandercook Universal III using individual wood type.
Additionally, a mix of dingbats was screen-printed on two more layers, and a selection of words was printed on a Catu platten press using both OTSP and Letterpress Brasil metal type collection. Special thanks to Patrícia Passos (Letterpress Brasil) and Ricardo Sutto (Sutto Serigrafia).
The process of creating the poster was captured in a video that features animated type and dingbats. The video was projected onto a building in Paulista Avenue and Rua da Consolação region in São Paulo, creating a unique art installation.
The poster and the video were completed in time for the 15th Wayzgoose conference at the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, in November 2023. The first batch of a limited series of 75 posters was signed at the conference.
During the first week of December, Henrique and Marcos will be in São Paulo for DiaTipoSP and a letterpress workshop featuring Brazilian type at OTSP. More details to come.
