This project, undertaken as part of an academic module, tasked me with addressing a social or emotional issue through visual storytelling. Drawing inspiration from the classic Scottish folklore tale 'The Legend of the Selkie,' I reinterpreted and transformed it into a visual narrative, interweaving personal memories and stories from my mother. This infusion of deeply personal elements imbued the story with a profound sense of belonging, loss, and identity. Employing ink and gouache to form loose-handed compositions enhances the ethereal nature of this tale. This creative approach resulted in a picture book that not only stands as a testament to my storytelling abilities but has also resonated with the public, aptly garnaring recognition in industry awards.
