Re-Engineered: Saudade Do Teu Beijo by Egda Carolyn

I discovered this song on Cambridge University's "Mixing Secrets" website, where they record and upload artists' songs for engineering students to practice mixing and mastering. Edga Carolyn's song "Saudade Do Teu Beijo" caught my ear due to it being one of the only Latin songs on the website. I downloaded the stems and imported them into Protools, and this is the pre-production:
In this segment of the song, I received individual tracks for the main loop, the shaker, the cowbell, and the main vocal. Starting with the shaker, I used an EQ plugin to tame the harsh high frequencies. Likewise, for the cowbell, I applied an EQ adjustment while also introducing a dip around 1KHz, as this area also exhibited harshness. When it came to the vocals, I boosted the gain significantly, as they were notably quiet. Additionally, I utilized an EQ plugin to roll off the low frequencies, enhance the high frequencies, and created a dip around 350Hz to address an out-of-place frequency. To maintain vocal dynamics, I incorporated a compressor with a threshold set just below the transients, at approximately -27Db, using a fast attack and a 4:1 ratio. To add depth to the vocal, I included a subtle reverb effect and employed a De-esser to mitigate hissing caused by sibilant sounds. Lastly, I applied auto-tune to ensure that the pitch of the vocal remained harmonious with the instrumental. The outcome of these post-production adjustments is detailed below:
