M81-M82 and the IFN

M81 - Bode´s Galaxy    M82 - Cigar Galaxy
At the start of the galaxy season I did not know what to do with my relatively short focal length of 379mm. So I started to use every clear night for a single project with the challenge to capture the IFN from my Bortle 4-5 backyard to test my progress over the last 2 years.

In the end I had 33h luminance and 20h H-alpha of the beautiful M81-M82 duo and I´m very pleased wiht the outcome after my 3rd attempt to edit this Image.

M81 - Bode's Galaxy and M82 - Cigar Galaxy are located in the constellation of Ursa Major about 12 million light years from Earth.

The IFN or Integrated Flux Nebula is not nearly as distant as the two galaxies. The IFN is much closer to our own galaxy. It is made up of extremely faint gas and dust, illuminated by the light from stars in the Milky Way.

There are also more galaxies like the Garland Galaxy and many that are much further away. I tried to mark every little galaxy that I found in the second image.

Here is a little comparison to my Image 2 years prior to this one
