Substance 3D to After Effects: 3D compositing
Lately, I have been playing Starfield and it inspired me to take a look at creating a complex 3D scene using Substance and After Effects. I had an absolute blast working on this and used this project to test 3D workflows in AE and the upcoming "Send to After Effects" from Substance Painter feature.
The ground is a 4x4 meter plane that was displaced and tessellated using a rock material from Substance 3D Assets. The resulting mesh was 2.4 million polygons and duplicated 52 times to create the terrain.
Various compositing elements. The stars were created directly in After Effects using fractal noise. I also used Magic Bullet, Red Giant Real Flares and Optical Glow.
