Lukaku, out on loan after trouble at Chelsea, says he's 'thrilled' to be with the national team
Romelu Lukaku scored his 77th international goal.

Belgium defeated Estonia 5-0 in their Euro2024 qualifying Group F match at Stade Roy Baudouin in Brussels, Belgium, at 3:45 a.m. ET on July 13. The win puts Belgium at the top of the group with four wins and one draw from five matches (13 points).

On the day, Belgium deployed a 4-3-3 formation. Trosar, Lukaku, and Dokou were up front, while Carrasco, Onana, and Mangala formed the midfield. The back four was a combination of Thiate, Vertonghen, Paez, and Castagne, with Castillez in goal.

Belgium, ranked No. 2 in the FIFA rankings, faced Estonia, ranked No. 109. With such a large gap in objective strength, the game was one-sided. Belgium took the lead in the fourth minute of the first half with a goal from Vertonghen, before Trosar added a second in the 18th minute to further widen the gap.

Early in the second half, it was Lukaku's toe that shone. In the 11th minute of the second half, Lukaku received a pass from Mangala, won a contest with a defender, sprinted straight to the doorstep, and rattled the net with a right-footed shot. He completed his hat-trick two minutes later with a sharp right-footed finish from outside the penalty box. De Catellare added a 43rd-minute consolation goal to seal the 5-0 victory for Belgium.

Along with the euphoric victory, there was a record to celebrate. Lukaku scored his 76th and 77th goals in A-matches. In doing so, Lukaku tied Pele's record for A-match goals. Lukaku made his A-match debut in March 2010 and has since played 110 matches. He has scored 77 goals in those 110 games, including five goals at the World Cup.

Lukaku's recent form has been disappointing for his club. Lukaku is a product of the prestigious Anderlecht youth academy in Belgium. It was there that he made his professional debut and quickly 스포츠토토 rose to prominence at a young age. In 2009-10, Lukaku scored 15 goals and added five assists in 25 Belgian league games, and in 2010-11, he scored 12 goals and added five assists in 28 league games.

Chelsea expressed interest in him. However, he struggled to break into the Chelsea first team and was eventually loaned out to West Brom and Everton. Once he moved to Everton permanently, he flourished. This led to a move to Manchester United, where he once again tried his luck at the big club, but this time he wasn't at his best.

After scoring 23 goals in 36 league appearances in his first season, Lukaku followed that up with 24 league goals in 2020-21, helping Inter Milan win the Italian Serie A crown for the first time in 11 years. It's the second consecutive season he's scored 20 or more league goals.

Chelsea tried to re-sign Lukaku after his top-flight performances, but once again, he fell short and was sent out on loan to Inter Milan last season after a controversial spell. This season, he's on loan at AS Roma again. While he hasn't been at his best for the club in the last few years, he has been a consistent scorer for the national team.
