BikeTM: Bike Rental App

Overview

BikeTM is an Android application that helps users rent bicycles provided by the local administration. The app wants to motivate and empower its users to bike more. It offers cycling as an alternative solution to their daily challenges, such as commuting, being late, or going out for a ride when the weather is not perfect- an alternative that is more sustainable, healthier, and cheaper than cars.

Research Insights

I conducted competitive analysis, user interviews, field studies, and a qualitative survey that provided numerous insights into how users perceive various challenges when riding a bicycle and what motivates them to bike.

Solutions

BikeTM uses an hourly pricing model that allows users to make reservations without friction, unlock bikes without selecting a destination, and purchase a daily pass for long trips. Due to the flexible map pins used across most screens, the user is always informed about the state of bikes and docking stations, leading to better time management and reliability.
Unexpected Challenges

While analyzing the research data, it became apparent there was a large gap between users who are used to cycling multiple times a week and those who are not. This insight led to a Customer Support function on the app's main screen, where users in unfavourable situations (rainy weather, for example) can report their challenges and receive meaningful guidance from the app's support team.
Results

In the end, Smart University was a fascinating sneak peek into the world of digital education. With the right support and development, such a project would improve the college experience for a lot of users by centralizing all relevant activities within a single, powerful application.
