Lorne Surf Carnival: One team didn't quite make it though no-one was harmed - the crew were all experienced surf lifesavers - as were most of the onshore viewers. Surf lifesavers are all volunteers and save many lives each year pulling people who have misread the surf out of the water. Carnivals provide competition for local bragging rights while ensuring skills are honed and practised.
