NFA - natural fiber reinforced algae - is a materials research project that focuses on the question of how a composite material can be designed that consists fully of biodegradable components.
Composite materials are very interesting because of their versatile properties, but they are usually difficult to recycle. Through many experiments with natural fibers, fabrics and algae ingredients, it has been possible to develop a material that addresses this problem and has its own unique characteristics and aesthetics.
This thesis not only documents all the experiments but also provides a broad basis of what role such materials can play in the future and how they affect the environment. In this context, a life cycle has been created that examines all phases of production, use and disposal. In addition, possible opportunities for synergies with other ecosystems are discussed.
