The Pigeons in Hoi An Ancient Town

The Pigeon
in Hoi An Ancient Town
The artwork is inspired by the Hoi An Ancient Town I visited last summer. I was impressed by the ancient houses, the blue sky, the electric wires, the bougainvillea, and the lanterns, so I chose the moment in the late afternoon when the hot, dry orange color was melting in the neighborhood and the candles in the paper lanterns were starting to light up.

That day, I was running around the streets, chasing pigeons, when I met two old men sitting on the sidewalk, drinking herbal tea and playing the plucked zither of Vietnam. So I turned all those memories into elements in the work.

I drew a little girl in an Áo Tấc - a traditional costume of old Vietnam - bouncing around and strumming a plucked zither around a flock of little pigeons. In the alley behind her, a giant pigeon, wearing a jade pendant around its neck, enjoys the rustic sound of the plucked zither.
Thanks for viewing!
Hope to share to you new projects soon!
