Building a Brand Design System

Overview: The Process

Product School initiated a website audit a year ago that led to a full brand update. The company had grown and the goals had changed, the path was different.

Brand update: Brand Foundations

Together with the product team, we defined the basis for the new design system.

It was time to create a brand design system and decide how these new rules would apply to the rest of the company's assets & content. And to define how the brand would evolve consistently.
Brand update: Brand common elements

We identified the elements/blocks of content that would form the basis of our visual communication. These elements will maintain the coherence between the website and the rest of the brand expression.
Building a Brand Design System

We focused on creating all the basic elements for most of the teams using Figma.
This meant meeting with all the teams involved, researching their needs, asking questions and finding out how we could help them perform better.

Rebranding: internal libraries

Figma Components was my ally in creating a consistent branding system that the entire marketing team could use with little training.
The components were used as templates. Different formats and versions were created to meet the needs of the different teams.

Pros
- A really good way of controlling graphic production.
- Maintains the quality and consistency of the brand.
- Really easy to create and update content and templates for all departments.

Cons
We needed a bit of Figma training.

Example

Art direction: New Brand Universe

To support our communication goals, I decided to complement our brand visual identity with a new brand universe.

The visual language will be rich in graphic elements, providing new resources to help students better navigate the information. And will be divided into two variations: formal for corporate, fun for social media and communication in general.

Illustrations will become a fundamental part of the brand to help users understand our content on any platform.

Human to connect with our audience
