This is the Glasswing Butterfly. For one of our first projects at the LUCA School of Arts, we had to make an insect at a scale of 1/50. Because of its unique transparant appearance, I chose this insect. The challenge here was to make the wings as transparent as its real life version.

The first step in making this butterfly, was to make the body. I did this by tracing its body and wing shape on paper and lining with metal wire.
As this was one of the first projects I did for this school, I didn't have much experience in documenting this whole ordeal. That is why I don't have any great pictures of it and unfortunately, it is no longer with us.
