During my time at College and University I produced all of my work digitally using Adobe Software (Illustrator and Photoshop). Last year I struggled with a little bit of 'Creative Block' so decided I needed to make a change. I thought that maybe it was because digital was becoming too safe for me.
So ... I decided to try something completely different - quilling!
Instead of doing what any normal person learning a new skill/media would have done and start with the 'basics' ... I jumped right in there and agreed to do a commission for my friend.
I was asked to produce a piece with a koala and something purple.
I decided to combine quilling and paper so that the piece had a background without taking away from the main elements. It took quite a bit of trial and error but eventually, I got there.
This was the final piece, which I later framed before selling.
I am still very happy with how this turned out and proud of myself considering it was my first attempt.
After making the koala commission, I was asked to make another one by someone who saw it on my facebook.
I was asked to produce a piece inspired by 'the Owl and the Pussycat' nursery rhyme.
