LUX Moving Image

A digital platform for international arts agency that supports and promotes artists’ moving image practices and the ideas that surround them.

Client

LUX is an international arts agency that supports and promotes artists’ moving image practices and the ideas that surround them. Founded in 2002 as a charity and not-for-profit limited company, the organisation builds on a long lineage of predecessors (The London Film-Makers’ Co-operative, London Video Arts and The Lux Centre) which stretch back to the 1960s.

Requirements

LUX required a responsive, well structured website to replace their existing site, integrating with their Filemaker database containing over 6000 records, to display the works and artists from the LUX Collection.

The new site needed to be fully responsive for ease of use by mobile users, with a simple, uncluttered and contemporary design that is accessible and simple to navigate. For the artist collections the site needed to provide a space to exhibit artists’ moving image online – a flexible exhibition space which can include different media within the same page including live streaming.

The site also needed to have a system that archives, organises and categorises past programmes and writing contents and discursive media content such as videos of artists talks, podcasts, documentation image galleries in logical ways. With comprehensive search and navigation options within the collection section, easily searched by work fields such as artist, year, media, length, country, theme and date added to collection.

Delivery

We built the new website in WordPress for ease of use and content updates by nonspecialists in the office, with a dedicated & managed WordPress host.

Implementing a range of functions from Vimeo videos previews, membership functionality and an online shop, our team was able to help LUX reach all their aims as an organisation, as well as crating further revenue streams.

The website holds over 6,000 artists works and we provided further SEO and ongoing maintenance on the website to ensure data was easy to find both on the website and on search engines.
