BROCHURE LAYOUTS
I chose the  pressing issue of Electronic Waste or e-waste which we all encounter at a very personal level. My main concern regarding e-waste was how this waste is mishandled in the informal sector and what can the citizens do to handle e-waste on the household level.

The solution that could be most practical as an easily dispensable communication device that came to me is a printed brochure. - as a communication designer. The brochure would include the main concerns addressed as WHY, WHAT, HOW -  like what is e - waste and what are the different types of electronics waste, why is it a problem to the environment and human kind, how the informal sector plays a role in non-recycling of e-waste, and what can be done to handle e-waste and ensure they are being recycled.

Rationale - The reason I choose to make a brochure was first, to simply make people aware about e-waste, and second so that it can be handed out to people who purchase electronics from the electronic stores like Croma, Vijay sales, Samsung etc because all these stores have e-waste program and are connected to authorized recyclers but people are not aware of it. If a brochure is given with each purchase people get to know what they should do with their electronics once they get damaged. My target audience are the millennials age group 15 - 35, as they are heavy users of electronics and likely to understand and accept the information provided in the brochure.

The final outcome is a square shaped brochure inspired by the old yellow page phone directory or yellow pages advertisements that was once the most accessible printed source for anyone needing a ready reference for contacts and references. This would also exploit the yellow, black, red theme so as to reproduce a style that people feel a familiarity with. The color red is used to depict the e-waste dustbin color. I have played around the space of my brochure in such a way that people need to rotate it 3 times clockwise to read different information. Color blocking is done to depict 3 separate areas. 3 sections also depict the 3 recycling arrows. Text alignment is purposefully varied from left align in one section to center align and right align in another - much like the e waste sector itself which is disorganized and needs immediate attention.
