Covid Authoritarians

When the pandemic started, leaders around the world were granted the power to implements emergency measures to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus. Over time, officials started using those tools to wall off critics, defend attempts to them accountable for their decisions, roll back civil liberties and consolidate power. All of this is bad for democracy. Columbia Magazine wonders if it can be undone.
