Figure-skating
For over a decade I worked primarily as a figure-skating photographer, traveling throughout the Eastern U.S. and Canada, attending amateur and pro competitions, tours and shows. My work has been shown in skating magazines, books, and show programs. While I think of skating as BOTH sport and art, and as a fan I appreciate both aspects, as a photographer I was always more interested in the theatrical/dance aspects of the discipline. A former dancer and actress, I preferred theatrically-lit productions, and loved to play with the intersection of human body movement and shadow and reflection on the ice. I think my work was most influenced by the theatrical photography of Martha Swope, rather than the photographers of Sports Illustrated and other sport photographers.
