Football as Art is personal project that uses A.I. to transform iconic football moments into works of art reminiscent of some of the greatest artists from the past.

Football is a worldwide renowned sport that so many of us appreciate. It has given us joy and it has given us sadness, and sometimes, complete awe. Every once in a while, football players reach for the stars and their talent is so great, they are considered true artists.
The Goal of the Century
Argentina was playing against England in the quarter finals for the world cup. Diego Maradona surpassed every English player that faced him until he scored. He played with such ease and with a gift that so few ever come even close to it.

Maradona was a genius ahead of his time and what better artistic current to represent him than Futurism, in the style of Italian futurist painter, Fortunato Depero.
The brazilian genius
Champions League, 2007. Manchester United was facing AC Milan in the semi final 1st’s leg.Manchester won that night, but what remained in people’s heads (and hearts!) was the fantastic goal by Ricardo Kaká.

This one went down in the history books. Like Paul Klee, Kaká had a unique style that defined him as one of the greatest.
Tardelli's scream
It was the World Cup final in 1982. Italy was facing West Germany.
The match was held in Spain, but it was Italy’s territory. The “azzurri” were conquerors that day, and Tardelli made it even more clear with his scream for victory after scoring the second goal.

Just like Picasso, he wasn’t afraid of showing who he really was.
CR7 vs. Spain
Cristiano Ronaldo was on fire when playing against Spain in the 2018 world cup. He completed his hat trick at minute ‘88, giving us one of his most famous celebrations.

Like Henri Matisse back in his day, Ronaldo is a revolutionary, multi talented artist that significantly influences his craft.
A memorable header
Tensions ran high in the final for the world cup in 2006, with France playing against Italy.

One move from Materazzi made Zidane lose it, and the world was given one of the most controversial headbuts in football history.

Italy may have won the world cup, but Zidane won a legendary status. Using the style of Pablo Picasso to represent this moment was only natural.
G.O.A.T.
A prodigy, Messi has had many glorious goals throughout his career. But in 2015, he was playing the finals for Copa del Rey, competing against Athletic Bilbao. As you probably guessed it, he scored. Oh, but what a score!

This goal was what football dreams are made of, what football fans wait all their lives to witness. A true wonder, just like Paul Signac’s paintings.
