American Monster Field Guide

CONCEPT
Slide Rock National Park is an organized collection of some recurring monsters found in American folklore and mythology (focusing on the great lakes region's fearsome critters) styled like a field guide. These descriptions are supplemented with a map of these creatures and edited photos to represent a few of the tales surrounding the monsters.
AUDIENCE
This project would be for the enthusiast over the expert. This would give me two goals: Keep interface and descriptions simple and Provide proper context and vocabulary.
RESEARCH
My research would include and collecting the various creatures that would  be featured in the project. I used the archives of various state and national libraries and historical societies interviewing a few natives of the Great Lakes regions.
MOODBOARDS
I drew inspiration from 1970s EPA posters, national park photography and signage.
The title “Slide Rock National Park,” a fictional park where all of those creatures could live.  I incorporate park photography and a type writer font with muted colors to make it feel like you were looking into field notes of a park ranger.
