Why Acutus Launched AcQForce PFA-CE

Sanjiv M. Narayan, M.D., Ph.D. is a renowned cardiologist in San Diego who received his MD, PhD from the University of Birmingham in 1994. Currently, Dr. Sanjiv M. Narayan serves as a professor of medicine at Stanford University and directs its Computational Arrhythmia Research Laboratory. The laboratory conducts research for the treatment of atrial fibrillation using mapping and artificial intelligence techniques.

In November 2021, Acutus Medical Inc. announced that it had launched an ongoing clinical study called ACQForce PFA-CE. At its core, AcQForce PFA-CE focuses on testing the reliability and precision of Acutus' focal force-sensing pulsed-field ablation catheter when used under the guidance of the company's 3D mapping system.

The company's ablation catheter (AcQBlate Force) delivers radiofrequency or PFA therapy to correct erroneous (stray) electrical signals generated inside a patient's heart with atrial fibrillation. The purpose of the clinical trial is to vet the efficacy of the technology in blocking those signals while concurrently leaving healthy tissues intact. At the time of the report, the company confirmed that the first group of patients treated with the technology at Na Homolce Hospital in the Czech Republic showed successful outcomes.
