slowdive - treasury (1990-2017)
concept design for a digipack cd package
Formed in 1989 in Reading, Berkshire, Slowdive are a British rock band. The band consists of Rachel Goswell (vocals and guitar), Neil Halstead (vocals and guitar), Christian Savill (guitar), Nick Chaplin (bass) and Simon Scott (drums). The group is most famous for its dream pop/shoegaze sound, being considered one of the most respected bands of their genre.
Idealized as a retrospective of the group's career, the album should feel like a treasure trove, an archive of memories for the band. I used two overexposed analog photographs I took in the past for the exterior and interior sides of the layout of the digipack package. The blend with the band photograph on the front cover gives a dreamy, nostalgic feel to the album (that goes hand in hand with Slowdive's sound).
While keeping the design rather minimalistic, two other band photographs were used: one while at the start of their career - on the third flap of the exterior side of the digipack - and the other at their present stage - in the cover of the album's booklet.
An assembly of all the band's releases (EPs and albums) was made for the first page of the booklet, further visually showcasing the band's course.
