Akira Kurosawa is one of my favorite directors. Of all his films, Ran (1985) has stuck with me the most. Not only is the film a visual masterpiece, but the story behind it's production and development is a real testament to Kurosawa's legacy.
Prior to shooting the film, Kurosawa spent ten years creating paintings for every shot in the film. This attention to detail led to an astounding use of color.
For this storyboarding project I wanted to focus on Kurosawa's use of color for characterization. The style is based on color scripts I found for The Incredibles (2004). I hope you enjoy what I've come up with.
