Lihaaf by Ismat Chughtai - Recreating Book Covers

A recreation of a book cover for Ismat Chughtai's iconic and equally controversial story Lihaaf, published in 1942. The story explores the themes of queer identity, concealment, morality, and trauma within a Muslim household, its narrative containing the stories of three different women.
Ismat Chughtai (1915 - 1991) was an Indian Urdu novelist, famously known for her stories that explored the idea of feminism, sexuality, and class conflict.

This book cover was created as part of Illustrating Words, an illustration course that is part of my undergraduate studies.
