My concept was admiration of scars or disfigurements in anatomy. I was inspired by my own families history with scars due to diseases or accidents. I wanted to create my work with clay to depict the folds of skin.

I started with creating my own foot. My feet was disfigured from doing ballet for 10 years. I am not bothered by it anymore. In my clay sculpture I exaggerated the disfigurement to create a dynamic structure.
My second sculpture was a cancerous stomach that depicted my aunts ovarian cancer. She had a hysterectomy scar from her surgery. I started with making a mound and carved it into shape. After I finished sculpting I painted pieces of fabric fabric with fabric paint and glued them onto the knots behind the stomach. I was aiming to make the stomach seem cancerous. The knot design was supposed to represent tumors. The clay slowly started falling apart which also matches the concept.
While I was working on the stomach I decided to ask people their opinions about scars and created a work about it. They wrote down the story of their scars and their thoughts about it in their own handwriting. I scanned these and image traced them. Then I printed them and glued them onto the bandages. I used fabric paint to add color. Also, I etched one of the wounds that a person I interviewed sent me on plexiglass. Then I printed this with a printing press and made some ghost prints. Also, I traced the sketch one of the people I interviewed. Her sketch was a about her accident that resulted in her scar. I etched and printed this with a printing press.
