Huntington Beach, CA.
There is nothing better than spending Christmas in California, at the
beach, on a beautiful, clear morning such as this.
I have been to Huntington Beach hundreds of times, but never on
Christmas Day. Never have I been so lucky as to have an opportunity
to photograph at Huntington where there were no people, the waves
were fairly calm, and it was clear enough to see Catalina all at once.
This is a little piece of Southern California at its finest.
A New Balanced Rock on the Potash Trail, Moab, UT.
The Balanced Rock in Arches National Park (pictured next) is one of
the most famous monuments in the Moab, but on one of my many
off-roading trips I came upon a new balanced rock, located on the
Potash Trail in Moab, Utah.
This truly defines Red Rock Country.
Balanced Rock at Arches National Park, Moab, UT.
Moab, Utah, is home to some of the most unique and diverse
monuments and rock formations in the world. Pictured above is
Balanced Rock which is one of the most famous monuments located in
Arches National Park.
I have photographed Balanced Rock hundreds of times over the years
on my visits there, but never have I been treated to such a perfect
clear day with the jet trails criss-crossing in the sky overhead.
Landscape Arch at Arches National Park, Moab, UT.
This photo was taken with my Nikon film camera with black and white
film and developed in the darkroom. The detail that you can get with
film is beyond compare.
This shows Landscape Arch in a new light.
Delicate Arch at Arches National Park, Moab, UT.
One of the most famous and most photographed arches in the world
is Delicate Arch. I have photographed this beautiful monument many
times, but never with absolutely no people there and never with storm
clouds rolling in.
The Bean in Millennium Park, Chicago, IL.
Millennium Park in Chicago is known for its unique sculptures and
artwork. The Bean (or as it was originally titled, The Cloud) is one of
the most iconic sculptures and landmarks in Chicago.
I liked the angle of this photo, as it shows a unique angle of The Bean,
and is dwarfing the people that are walking under it.
The Bean in Millennium Park, Chicago, IL.
I got lucky with this photo, as there was hardly anyone in Millennium
Park the day I took this photo. Usually there are crowds surrounding
The Bean, but without many people there, I was able to capture The
Bean and the reflection of the city.
This is truly one of Chicago’s finest features.
Lake Tahoe, CA.
One of the most beautiful natural mountain lakes in the United States
with its crystal clear blue water, Lake Tahoe is also unique in the fact
that it is actually in two states: California and Nevada.
Only certain kinds of boats can sail on Lake Tahoe, as its beauty and
naturalness must be preserved and not polluted.
Lake Tahoe, CA.
A single sailboat cruising through the mountain water truly shows the
clear blue water at its finest.
San Francisco Bay, CA.
The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most iconic landmarks and
bridges in the world and is also one of the most photographed. I
wanted to portray the Golden Gate Bridge in a different way than
maybe was done before.
In this image, I wanted to show only the shadow of the Golden
Gate in the San Francisco Bay. It almost looks like the sailboat is going
to touch the top of the bridge, which happened by pure luck and good
timing when I was photographing.
Golden Gate Bridge
In the image above I stood directly underneath the Golden Gate to
photograph it at this dynamic perspective.
San Francisco, CA.
Cityscapes can be just as dynamic as landscapes; pictured here is San
Francisco (shot from Treasure Island) at sunset.
The Bay is fairly calm, there is no fog, and the buildings are just
starting to light up from the setting sun.
New York City, NY.
Cityscapes shot from afar can be wonderful, and cityscapes shot from
above can be equally as compelling; pictured here is New York City
(shot from the Top of the Rock) at night.
The city is as bright as always, and it is clear night with no clouds.
Times Square in New York City, NY.
In the bright lights and mobs of people in Times Square, one couple
stands out in the front of the photo and appear to be looking at the
camera, although this was not planned or posed.
Just a glimpse of the city that never sleeps.
Lighthouse in Pescadero, CA.
About 50 miles south of the big city life of San Francisco, right on the
cliffs of Pescadero and right off Highway 1 is a lone lighthouse standing
out against the cloudy gray of the sky.
A must see, for those who are traveling up and down the coast.
Huntington Beach, CA.
At the US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, there is always
something new and exciting to see. This year, I noticed this blimp
flying overhead which was painted to look like a minion from the
movie Despicable Me.
An ordinary beach scene, complete with seagulls and a couple holding
hands, is now made into something exciting with the minion blimp
watching you at the beach.
Seal Beach, CA.
At Seal Beach, it was a clear day and there were many surfers out and
about. One surfer stood out in particular: Santa Claus complete with a
red surfboard, perhaps on his day off?
Again, an ordinary beach scene turned into something dynamic.
Windmills near Cheyenne, WY.
This is a digital photograph turned to black and white with Photoshop.
I wanted to see the difference between a black and white digital photo
and a black and white film photo (pictured left.)
The details are much stronger in the film, but with the black and white
digital version of the windmills, the photo takes on a whole different
mood and personality.
A New Balanced Rock on the Potash Trail, Moab, UT.
This photo was taken with my Nikon film camera with black and white
film and developed in the darkroom. This is the same balanced rock
that is shown in my second image, but when taken at a different angle and
farther distance, and with black and white film, the rock takes on a
whole different personality and mood.
The black and white film shows details that may have been missed in
the digital color version.
Interstate 80 through Wyoming.
The clouds were spectacular this day driving through Wyoming,
looking almost as if they were painted into the sky.
