D&AD XL RECORDINGS
The brief was to 'illustrate' an event or events in XL Recordings history. I chose Tyler, The Creator winning a VMA for Best New Artist. My solution consists of using a paradox image constructed by unconventional materials. These both reflect Tyler and the reasons for why he won his VMA, celebrating him as an artist. The image is based on the Yonkers video, communicating the struggle for control in his head between himself and Wolf Haley. It is visually communicated through a medium of icing and sprinkles, which relates to Odd Future who use it in their logo. As well being a metaphor for something that contains naughty stuff you probably shouldn’t like or have, but you do.
