Design of the coin Shambhala for the Legendary Lands series - Mint of Gdańsk.
According to legends and Buddhist teachings Shambhala can exist on two levels: spiritual and physical. Here in my design I wanted to capture two dimensions. The design of the coin packaging shows a monk looking at the peaks Himalayas symbolizing the search for the physical city of Shambhala, which is said to be hidden somewhere in these mountains. Whereas the reverse of the coin shows a Hindu and above her head stretches the mystical land of Shambhala - so it is a presentation of the legendary land as a placein the mind, where one can go on the path of spiritual enlightenment. Put together, this design is a visual story of a mysterious Shambhala.
My project included: topic research, creating ideas, sketches and detailed illustration of the coin, then designing packaging and certificate. It was a pleasure to work on this project and the final effect of the silver coin created by Mint of Gdańsk is a phenomenal work of art.
