BLOG SEVEN: Looking at Logos

BLOG SEVEN: Looking at Logos
My boyfriend often shows me his TikToks when we are spending time together and he showed me a particular one about a new logo redesign for a symphony. One hundred-year-old San Fransico Symphony recently redesigned their logo from this:
To this:
The TikTok described the logo to be both "timeless" and "modern" and I agree, but only for a particular reason. I've seen redesigns of places/logos that people haven't agreed with (e.g., the Smucker's new redesign and Dallas, TX Zoo-themed McDonalds being shut down) and I understand those feelings completely. A lot of things are getting modernized to keep up with the times, which people feel like is stripping away the means of creativity of things to end up being simplistic and minimalist. However, I feel entirely differently about the San Fransico Symphony redesign.

The TikTok I watched showed the different ways of the logo's adaptation to variable type and design system. There is a versatility with this new logo and how it can be presented from billboards to playbills and more. It is able to move and change with its environment which I have never seen before. I think this is a big step to how creative type can be within logo designs and companies and I am excited to see more.
