DVB102 - Assessment 1 - Week 3

Darren's Standards 1/5, Image 6
This panel was drawn using pen and paper.
In this first panel, I set up the structure of the story, introduced 2 characters with dialogue to establish the plot.
I was happy with the sweat, facial expressions and background.
The shading could've been better and I would like to improve on my handwriting/font choice.

This panel represents an escalation in the plot, where the characters witness something that moves the script forward.
I am happy with the simple illustration of the eyes. I tried to also make the left boy's eyebrows indicate his confusion at the other boy's outburst.
The hands and the shading could've been better in this panel.

This panel identifies the forthcoming action by the boy on the right and the continued scepticism by the boy on the left.
The right boy's big eyes indicate he is star struck.
There are continuity issues with the length of the hair of the boy on the left and this would need to be resolved in a rework.

This panel was drawn using pen and paper.
The left boy's expression implies that the right boy is behaving irrationally and not cool. I am happy with this representation.
Again there are consistency issues with the left boy - he is significantly smaller (or lower in the panel as compared to others in the strip).  I would also like to have improved the hand of the right boy to make it more realistic.

The left boy concludes the plot by explaining the right boy's humorous mistaken identity.
I am really happy with the left boy's expression of exasperation.
I chose to call the bus driver Liz as a nod/timestamp to recognize the passing of Queen.
I am really happy with the irregular shape of this panel and the others as it makes the strip seem informal and suits the setting and scene.
The message of the comic strip is that appearances can be deceptive and we shouldn't jump to conclusions, because not everything is what it seems.
