Hello Neighbor: The Raven Brooks Disaster

Hello Neighbor Final Cover. Adding the doll was a note from the licenser so that there was some connection to the previous title.
Hello Neighbor Cover Inks. The top portion of the cover was lightened a bit for the final because the hard ink lines were conflicting with the title treatment.
Hello Neighbor Cover Comps. We almost ended up going with the first image for the cover, but the publisher was concerned that it would look too much like The Neighbor was trying to hit our main characters with the truck as apposed to being stopped in front them.

This was my test for the project so that the publisher and the licenser could get an idea of how my style would look with two existing characters from the first book. Obviously one of those characters was Theodore Masters Peterson, The Neighbor. Everyone really liked my test, but they had some notes on Mr Peterson. Mainly that he looked to hulking and that he needed to be smaller in stature, yet still creepy and menacing.
Here was my next attempt at drawing Mr. Peterson. While the book team liked the direction that I was headed with this new design, they were concerned that even though he looked angry and imposing, he looked more like a stern dad than the unhinged Neighbor.
Here is an expression sheet for Mr. Peterson. These headshots were based off of the previous design. Even though we didn't go with this look for The Neighbor, the publisher loved seeing multiple expressions and reactions and it helped me to zero in on a final design.
At this point I was getting really close to finalizing the way The Neighbor would look within the story.
This was the final character sheet for Mr. Peterson that I delivered to the publisher. I made his sweater look older and more faded, and played around a little bit with the idea of giving him some light stubble.
This was just a little exploration sketch of Mr. Peterson.
One of my designs for Pris. She ended up looking a little different in the book, but her final look was based heavily off of this design.
This was one of my designs for Regina. One of the notes that I got back from my art director was that they wanted me to adjust Regina's proportions. The AD also wanted me to change her hair because it looked too close to Pris' and they wanted more of a distinction between the two characters.
The Raven Man had already been designed by another artist, but the publisher and licenser wanted to see how I would draw the character.
