The County Fair
It is not known when the first fair was held, however, evidence suggest that fairs took place as early as 500 BC. Churches were the first entities to sponsor fairs for revenue. "feria" is Latin for fair. Early Christians celebrated with allusions to commerce, trade, the marketplace, religious feasts and holy days. The first fair came to the USA in 1756 as a 2-day agricultural market. Today there are still competitions that exist with farm animals and food contests. The colors and motion are amazing subjects for photography.
