waves

Waves come in
with tact to drown out every other thing
and gather around my rock
a place I've found in fear
I wear the crown up here
and waves come in
waves arrive
and settle on the coast that they were destined for
rest upon the beach a fort
against a rock that stood the test of time
waves arrive, arrive
waves can sing a voice is carried just above the ocean floor
even little ones that break upon the open shore
waves can sing
they tell me things I can't ignore
i've heard them in my dreams before
waves can sing
waves retire and edge back towards the long blue line again
freeing up the sand that first had let me in
and i see that they're loyal to the sea
they're not loyal to me
they're loyal
waves retire...

- Penned by Ben Connolly / Kelvin Barr / Neil Foot
“He no longer dreamed of storms, nor of women, nor of great occurrences, nor of great fish, nor fights, nor contests of strength, nor of his wife.

He only dreamed of places now and the lions on the beach. They played like young cats in the dusk and he loved them as he loved the boy. He never dreamed about the boy. He simply woke, looked out the open door at the moon and unrolled his trousers and put them on.”

Ernest Hemingway, The Old Man and the Sea
“You did not kill the fish only to keep alive and to sell for food, he thought. You killed him for pride and because you are a fisherman. You loved him when he was alive and you loved him after. If you love him, it is not a sin to kill him.

Or is it more?
“Why did they make birds so delicate and fine as those sea swallows when the ocean can be so cruel?”

The bird replied to the fish -
"No one should be alone in their old age. I love you and respect you very much. But I will kill you dead before this day ends.”

“The fish is my friend too... I have never seen or heard of such a fish. But I must kill him. I am glad we do not have to try to kill the stars"

Imagine if each day a man must try to kill the moon, he thought.
The moon runs away.

But imagine if a man each day should have to try to kill the sun? We were born lucky; he thought”
“But man is not made for defeat," he said.
"A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”

- Each day is a new beginning
“Now is no time to think of what you do not have. Think of what you can do with what there is.”

The voyager sleeps tonight...
