Part of my new art series, Bir: The Garden of Undoing, a place of great healing and reversal. "The Red Prince" (2022) is particularly inspired by the work of Hajime Kanzaka, creator of the light novel Slayers (1995). This Red Prince has a parallel story to Slayer's Red Priest, the blind magician whose eyes seal a red-eyed monster. The magician destroyed a city, but was weakened by a holy tree called "Flagoon" from the heart of the city. It absorbed so much darkness inside him, that the tree grew large, until it appeared like a whole forest. Similarly, the Red Prince, to seal his own monsters, makes home in the Garden of Bir, a sacred place that absorbs one's darkest everything and turns them into flowers.
